FAQs

Isn’t the YWCA Auckland hostel only for young women?
No. We have three floors which are for women only but we also have three mixed floors.

How long can I stay?
We offer short, medium and long term accommodation, so you can stay from one night to several years.

What do I need to bring?
The beds are fully made up with warm duvets. Extra blankets are available upon request. Sheets are changed weekly. You will need to bring your own towels and other personal products.

Is there an age limit?
Yes, residents must be 18 years of age or over.

Do I have to be a student?
No, the hostel is for everyone. However, most of our residents are studying at either Unitech, a University or language schools, so it gets very quiet here at exam time. This is not a party hostel!

Are alcohol and smoking allowed?
No, our hostel is an alcohol-free zone. Smoking is only permitted outside the hostel in a designated smoking area. The entire building is fitted with smoke detectors.

How do I pay my rent?
Rent is paid every Tuesday unless you are staying less than a week. You can pay your rent by cash, eftpos, credit card (Visa, Mastercard) or by automatic payment. Payment by way of credit card will incur a surcharge. For long-term residents, payment is preferred by way of bank transfer.

How can I extend my booking?
We recommend that you book the maximum amount of time that you may want to stay. It is easy to shorten your stay by giving two weeks notice but almost impossible to extend your stay as we are so heavily booked. We also have a waiting list.

Is the YWCA Auckland hostel a safe place?
Yes, our front door is always locked. We issue you with a access card to get in. The reception desk is staffed 24 hours a day. We also have high-tech surveillance cameras in operation 24 hours a day.

What is included in the rent?
All taxes, power, heating etc are included in the weekly rent. You will need to pay for your own food, cleaning products for your room, and your own personal effects. Wireless internet is available at an additional cost. There is limited paid car parking on site and is subject to availability: bookings are essential.

How can I keep in contact with home?
There are no phones in the rooms but you can receive calls at reception, and we have a card and coin phone in a sound-proof phone booth. You can collect your mail and parcels from reception. Wireless internet access is available, but does come at an additional cost.

Is the YWCA Auckland hostel clean?
Yes, we pride ourselves on maintaining high standards of cleanliness. We want to make sure that your stay is as comfortable as possible. We employ professional cleaners to clean the kitchen and bathrooms. You will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of your own room.

Can I cook here?
Yes – we have a large fully equipped kitchen which is open 23 hours a day (it is closed one hour each day for cleaning). Every room has a fridge and there are freezers on the ground floor where you are welcome to keep your frozen foods.

Can I get a discount?
