3rd November 2010

What does it mean to be a woman in Auckland today?

To mark the YWCA Auckland's 125th anniversary, the YWCA Auckland and The Aucklander local newspaper are jointly running a photography competition, calling for images of our women in today's world.

"In this photo competition, we expect to see inspired and inspiring photographs of women in Auckland today - empowered and embracing leadership in all roles in their lives," says Hilary Sumpter, YWCA Auckland's CEO.

The competition will run over three weeks in November and was announced on November 4th in all four regions where the Aucklander is published.  It will close Thurs 25th November at 5pm.

There are three entrant categories: Youth (12-18), Portrait and Creative Interpretation.  Prizes for each of these categories (as well as overall winner and public choice) have been supplied by supporters Vodafone, Polaroid and Samsung.

Winners will be judged by The Aucklander's chief photographer, YWCA Auckland Board Member and Marketing Manager and well known photographer Becky Nunes.

Winners will be announced at a cocktail party to be held by the YWCA on Wednesday 1st December at October Reign in Newmarket (and published in The Aucklander on Thursday 2nd December).   Prints of the winning entries will be auctioned on the night as a fundraiser.
